HOLLAND BEGINNINGS
The beginning of our line is said to be (though not proven) Joris KINDOLSON (1605-?) (my eight great grandfather) Born in Norde Holland. The link between Joris Kindlosson and the Enloes has not been documented, it is only found on internet postings and referenced also by Col. T. A. Enloe.
The following is from Robert B. ENLOE from his book "The Ancient ENLOES."
"I know that Joris Kindloson was in fact a Scottish soldier stationed in Holland. (my copy of a Dutch book gives me that info) Wouldn't a name ending in son usually mean "son of", such a Johnson meaning son of John? Wouldn't the original of Kindloson probably be Kindlo or maybe even Kindloch? There is a Scotch name Kindloch which means "head of the loch", from lands at the head of Rossie Loch. They received charters to the land as early as the reign of Alexander III, one of the earliest names of the kingdom, around 1250. I have some of their history and their crest. I think that's an interesting possibility. (Scottish Clan And Family Encyclopedia)
Have no clue how or by whom the information was originally started. There is some reference to Dutch ancestry by descendants of Anthony Enloes and Hendricks Enloes, but not well documented. Researcher Jean Inlow believes there is NOT a connection to Kindlosson and is looking for documentation to prove her contention in present day Holland archives."

The Maryland ENLOWS
Hendrick ENLOES (my seventh great grandfather) ( 1632-1708) He is also known as "Henry." Our family in America decended from him. It was said that he was born in Amsterdam, Norde Holland, Netherlands. He was the first member of the family to be naturalized in America in the province of Maryland on 6 June 1674. In his Naturalization he stated he was Dutch. Records show that in 1670 he attested the Will of Hugh Broadwater in Baltimore County, Maryland; and that in 1673 and 1687 there were surveyed for him at least five pieces of land from the lands of Lord Baltimore in Ann Arundel County, Maryland. His son John having died, he willed his lands to his son Abraham Enloes. He married Christiania WRIGHT in 1668 and they had five children. Abraham, Henry, John, Hester, and Margaret.
Abraham ENLOES (my sixth great grandfather) (1665-1709) married Elizabeth SILVERTHORNE, before 1700 in Accomack County, Virginia. He was naturalized 21 February 1685 in New Castle, Delaware. They had 11 children.
Abraham ENLOES (my fifth great grandfather) (1705-1758) In 1730 he married Mary DEASON and they had twelve children. In 1733, Abraham Enloes leased Lot #50 on Lord Baltimore's Gunpowder Manor which consisted of 100 acres and may have been called at that time "Enloe's Last Shift." In 1743, he leased another 41 acres on the Gunpowder Manor known at the time as "Abraham's Desire." In the Maryland resurvey of the manor, these two leases were known as "Enloe's Last Shift" (1785).

The Pennsylvania ENLOWS
Abraham Enlow (my 4th great grand father) (1678-1709) settled in 1773 in what is now East Finley Twp., Washington Co, Pennsylvania. He was one of the first settlers in this county. He settled on Wheeling Creek, where he built a block house for protection from the Indians. His first land purchase was 400 acres called "Big Flat (21 Feb 1788)." He came from Baltimore (now Harford) County Maryland, where the name ENLOW (of Dutch origin) appears as early as 1660. On Nov 28-1754 Abraham married Jemima (daughter of James Elliott). She was born Nov 30-1738, Abraham and Jemima had 15 children: James, Luke, Rebecca, Elliott, Abraham, Isom, Jesse, Rachel, Henry, Elizabeth, Michael, Jemima, Mary, William, and Sarah.
Elliott ENLOW (my 3rd great grandfather) b. 1 Oct 1763, d. 1808, married Martha ATKINSON b. 1767 d. 13 July 1826. They had nine children, one of which was Gideon. He was a Private in the Revolutionary War.
Gideon Enlow (my 2nd great grandfather) (1808-1858) was first married to Rachell Pratt of Washington County, Pennsylvania, USA., and after her death to Jemima St. Clair who was 24 years his junior -- and his first cousin once removed as her grandmother was Jemima Enlow St. Clair. Jemima 2nd married John Largent who was also originally from Western Pennsylvania, USA., and more than 20 years her senior. There were children from both of Gideon's marriages and at least one child from the marriage of Jemima and Largent. Jemima and Gideon married very soon after Rachel's death in 1851 because their first child was born in 1853. Gideon had six children the eldest being my great grandfather, Elliott W. Enlow.
Elliott W. ENLOW (my great grandfather) first married Ellen Ann OVERMAN 21 Dec 1865, having 10 children. She died 13 Dec 1891 and he then married Eleanor (Also called Ellen) HOWELL 5 Jan 1893. They had no children. She had previously been married to another Elliott ENLOW (1816-1884). The two Elliott's were second cousins. From the first marriage My grandfather Benson was born.
Benson Campbell ENLOW (my grandfather) (1877-1963) married his third cousin Idesta Roberta DANLEY, 3 June 1903. This union produced eight children.
George Russell ENLOW (my father) (1915-2006), was the fifth child of their marriage.
